Stephen O’Donnell is astonished that neither Rangers nor Celtic signed Bojan Miovski or Lawrence Shankland during the January transfer window.

Both teams made moves to improve their chances of winning the title. Mohamed Diomande, Oscar Cortes, and Fabio Silva joined the Ibrox club, while Brendan Rodgers added Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah. Celtic’s business has been criticised for a lack of movement to offer the manager the best chance of bringing the title back to Glasgow’s east end.

Aberdeen’s Miovski and Hearts’ Shankland were among the players linked with January moves. The former was claimed to be receiving Hoops attention during his form with a faltering Dons side, while Rangers’ ties to the Tynecastle captain refuse to go away.

Motherwell right-back Stephen O’Donnell has faced both of the league’s stars this season and is well aware of their abilities. Speaking with Go Radio, he is surprised that none of the Premier League clubs has made a move for either striker.

He stated: “It’s kind of what I thought Celtic or Rangers would’ve done with the likes of Shankland or Miovski when they were scoring all the goals.” You can get these men for a fraction of the money you pay for unknown names from other nations, and I just assumed one of them would have taken him in January.”

Rangers return to action this weekend, hosting Hibs, as the international break concludes. They possess a game in hand over Celtic and can go top again with a win before the Hoops play Livingston on Sunday.
