Man United ‘hold talks with representatives of Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna’ as pressure grows on Erik ten Hag

There are reports that Kieran McKenna, the manager of Ipswich Town, and Manchester United have had

discussions.

McKenna, who managed United’s Under-18 team in the past, is one of the most promising young managers in

English football, having been promoted twice with Ipswich.

The 38-year-old has been connected to moves to Chelsea and Brighton of the Premier League,

but it has now been revealed that United have already had discussions.

Sky Sports News reports that McKenna’s agents met last week with Omar Berrada, the chief executive of

United, and Jason Wilcox, the technical director of the team, to explore the managerial position at Old Trafford.

This occurs while pressure on current manager Erik ten Hag, who just led United to their lowest-ever Premier

League result, is mounting.

Despite the rumors regarding his job security, the Red Devils coach maintains he is totally focused on their FA

Cup final matchup with rivals Man City on Saturday afternoon.

“I am just focusing on the job I have to do, which is, first, win the game on Saturday and then we are in the

project and keep going in the project,” he stated during a recent press conference. I can’t stop thinking about

this game till Saturday. It’s all about the trophies, but getting one requires opportunity. We haven’t won many

trophies in the last ten years as a club, but we now have a chance to win two in a row.

“At the same time, over the past two years, you have reviewed it naturally after each season, and we will then assess our progress on the project and identify any necessary adjustments.”

McKenna, on the other hand, is expected to need between £4 million and £6 million in compensation to be

untangled from his contract, which is valid until 2027 at Portman Road.

Since December 2021, when Ipswich was in 12th place in League One, McKenna has been with the team.

He guided them to 11th place during that campaign, but since then, he has orchestrated two back-to-back

promotions, drawing throngs of supporters to Portman Road.

Due to his success at Ipswich, he is now strongly associated with the recently open positions at Brighton and

Chelsea.

According to recent reports, the Seagulls were hoping to sign the 38-year-old by jumping ahead of Todd

Boehly’s Blues.

Tuesday night saw the end of Chelsea’s relationship with Mauricio Pochettino, while earlier this month,

Roberto De Zerbi declared his intention to leave Brighton.

Prior to being elevated to assistant manager under Jose Mourinho, he was United’s U18 coach.

McKenna stayed with the team after Mourinho left until 2021, when he joined Ipswich.
