Everton have been linked with two transfer targets that would help them forget about Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana – and keep moving forward next season.

At Everton, the summer may not be simple. Despite a double points deduction, they avoided relegation from

the Premier League with relative ease thanks to Sean Dyche‘s tough managerial style. However, they will

probably lose a number of important players in the summer and it is unclear who will own the team in August.

There will be change, and it may not be an easy process.

Due to their difficult financial circumstances and owners’ reluctance to continue spending large sums of money

on the team, the Toffees’ ability to act as a player in the transfer market is likely to be limited. As a result, a

significant portion of the summer may be devoted to finding stars who will be leaving after the fact.

Selecting the appropriate individuals to take the position of departing stars like Jarrad Branthwaite and

Amadou Onana will be crucial.

Naturally, Everton has been connected to a number of players in both positions. There are two notable signings

that they might theoretically make that would fill those holes far more well than the alternatives, but some

rumors appear feasible and others less so.

It’s difficult to believe that Everton could do much better at center back than making a bid for Hull City’s Jacob

Greaves, one of the top young center backs in the Championship who has frequently been linked to a transfer to

the Premier League—Goodison Park, perhaps.

He provides many of the same attributes as Branthwaite. Standing at 6’4″, he possesses impressive aerial

strength, is a tough defender, and excels at predicting and handling direct balls over the top. This season,

Greaves has performed admirably in the second division while Branthwaite has been among the greatest last

lines of defense in the top flight.

Though Branthwaite is steadily getting better at passing and refining his technique, Greaves appears to be in

front of him in that regard. He is more at ease with the ball in his hands and can quickly pass the ball out of

defense depending on the situation.

Greaves appears to possess a more diverse skill set than Branthwaite, but he hasn’t been put to the test at the

greatest level yet, so there will be legitimate doubts about what he can accomplish until he is.

Greaves would probably cost Everton at least £15 million, which isn’t cheap but is a lot less than Branthwaite is

probably going to fetch—even though it seems crazily ambitious to suggest a £100 million price tag for the 21-

year-old. The main obstacle could be because West Ham United has been connected to a bid on multiple

occasions; another team might present a stronger offer. His performances have been noteworthy enough to

garner interest, and a bidding battle of some kind is probably in store.
