News Update:Ipswich now in competition to sign in-demand £4m goalkeeper this summer.

Ipswich Town has apparently set their sights on finishing some business away from the action, even if anything may

still happen on the field in what will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest Championship promotion battles in history.

Currently leading the Championship, Ipswich is poised to make Premier League history by earning back-to-back

promotions. However, they are only two points ahead of third-place Leicester City, who play this coming Saturday.

As we witnessed last time out against Southampton, Kieran McKenna‘s team is not expected to go down easy in the

next six games as they approach a Championship campaign that will live in memory.

Now that they have an East Anglian derby against Norwich City coming up, Ipswich is focusing on the summer transfer market in an attempt to make their Premier League ambition come true.

The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath and John Percy report that Ipswich, Newcastle United, and Crystal Palace are all

considering a move to recruit Middlesbrough’s Seny Dieng. According to reports, Boro is looking to sign a player for

twice as much as they did last year—a £2 million deal for the Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper.

This summer, following an outstanding Championship campaign, the Senegal international appears to have a

decision to make. As for Ipswich, there’s probably not many better ways to maybe make an impression on the

Premier League than to beat teams like Newcastle to a big summer acquisition. In the next window, the shot-stopper

is undoubtedly someone to keep an eye on.

“Weapon” Dieng is able to rival Hladky.

Although Dieng’s status as Middlesbrough’s top player has occasionally been questioned,

he has recently earned a spot back under Michael Carrick to solidify his place in the starting lineup once more.

By doing this, he has attracted the attention of Ipswich, who now have the opportunity to acquire a strong rival for

Vaclav Hladky.

Negotiating such a deal, meanwhile, might be difficult considering Carrick‘s intense admiration for Dieng. Concerning his goalie, the Boro manager stated earlier this season, via The Northern Echo:

“We feel it’s an extra kind of attacking weapon and having a keeper like Seny is an extra kind of string to your bow.” There is an additional player on the field who is at ease and capable of playing with the ball.

“We think it’s a good idea to have an extra player in possession, therefore we use it. Seny has blended in so nicely with that; it’s not play at all costs, but it is our inclination.”
