JUST IN! Celtic Makes Move to sign Spanish international for bargain fee…

Celtic have done a pretty good job of building up their squad over the summer and at the moment, they seem strong all across the pitch. But then, there are some players who are not getting a ton of playing time and could look towards the exit door by the time the January transfer window rolls around.

Luis Palma is someone who has been constantly linked with a move away in recent times. The Honduran winger has lost his place in the team and it is hard to see how he can get back in.

Daizen Maeda is in top form. And when Palma has been given chances, he has not been able to deliver. Even against Championship side, Falkirk, he could not impress.

So, it is very possible that Palma could leave in the winter window. If that was the case, Celtic would need to bring in a replacement. And a pretty good option might be available for potentially a bargain transfer fee.

Celtic should sign Spanish international for bargain fee if Palma leaves

Javi Puado has been a consistent performer for Espanyol throughout his time with the club, whether that be in La Liga or in the Spanish second division. This season, he has three goals in seven appearances in the top flight. His current deal is believed to be running out in the summer of 2025.

If Puado does not end up signing an extension with Espanyol soon, Celtic should consider the idea of signing him in January. The winger has made almost 200 appearances for his club and even has a cap for the Spanish national team to his name.

Also, at 26 years of age, he is entering his prime. These are the kinds of signings Celtic need to make if they want to improve at the Champions League level.

Of course, there would be the familiar questions. Would Puado consider leaving Spain for Scotland? Could he end up extending his contract with Espanyol?

Celtic made eight additions to their squad this summer. That included the club-record arrival of Arne Engels from FC Augsburg. The Hoops are believed to have shelled out a £11 million transfer fee to bring in the Belgian midfielder from the Bundesliga side and he has already been showing his quality for the Scottish champions.

Now, it looks like Celtic have their eyes set on another highly-rated talent. And it would take an eight-figure transfer fee to sign him as well.

As reported by FotbollDirekt, a long list of clubs such as Bayer Leverkusen, Eintracht Frankfurt, Crystal Palace and Benfica hold interest in Bazoumana Toure of Hammarby. Celtic are also involved and are considered to belong to the seriously interested category. The Scottish champions have kept an eye on the Ivorian talent through chief scout Joe Lefevre, who is said to have been impressed by what he has seen.

It is believed that Hammarby would look for a transfer fee in the region of €10 million for Toure. Of course, that would be a steep figure for Celtic but one they have shown they are willing to shell out if they are convinced about the player.

Toure is 18 years of age and has been in superb form. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 6 goals and provided 3 assists in 16 appearances for Hammarby in the Allsvenskan so far.

So, it is not hard to see why top clubs around Europe have taken notice of the winger. Now, it remains to be seen whether Celtic end up making a move for the Ivory Coast youth international.

Someone like Toure would be a solid addition to the club. He would have to compete with the likes of Daizen Maeda and Luis Palma for a spot in the starting XI.

Celtic have said goodbye to plenty of players in recent times. That is always the case at a club of this size though. Not everybody can make the grade at Parkhead and in that scenario, it makes sense for all parties to part ways. The Hoops got their recruitment mostly right when Ange Postecoglou was the manager but even then, not every move worked out.

One interesting name in that regard is Sead Haksabanovic. He arrived in the summer of 2022 and showed early promise at Parkhead.

In fact, he played his best football for the club right before the 2022 World Cup and it looked like Celtic had pulled off another transfer masterstroke. Unfortunately, the month-long break ended up derailing his momentum.

Haksabanovic did not regain his place in the team in the second half of the campaign. Postecoglou would leave next summer for Tottenham Hotspur and Brendan Rodgers arrived as his replacement. And by that point, the 25-year-old had become a forgotten man at Parkhead.

Haksabanovic spent a loan spell at Stoke City last season. Just like at Celtic, he showed early promise before fading away. This summer, he completed a permanent move to Malmo.

Malmo are set to take on the Rangers in the Europa League this week. And Haksabanovic has taken the opportunity to remind everyone of his Celtic past. As reported by Football Scotland, he said:

“The derbies were unbelievable. It surprised me in a good way. The atmosphere was crazy and when you play for Celtic you get to know more about the derby because when you look from the outside, you know a little bit. But when you play for Celtic you get to know it more and understand it more.

“Even tomorrow, it’s going to be a special game for me because I played for Celtic and I’m all for Celtic. Of course, I want to win tomorrow and it’s also special because I played for Celtic and I want my team to win and start the Europa League in a good way. I should have scored in the [2023] League Cup final… it was good that we won!”

It would be safe to say that Haksabanovic was not the most popular figure by the time he left Celtic. Some of his social media activity in the past had not gone down well with the supporters. But rest assured that Hoops fans will be absolutely delighted if his side hand a blow to the Rangers in the Europa League on matchday 1.
