Nottingham Forest announce full retained list as two departures confirmed and contract offer made

Nottingham Forest have confirmed they have offered defender Willy Boly the opportunity to extend his stay at the City Ground.

Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad is to undergo a reshuffle this summer ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. Changes will be made to the dressing room as the Reds prepare to compete in Europe for the first time in three decades after earning their spot in the UEFA Conference League.

As part of the shake-up, Forest confirmed earlier today (Monday) that full-back Harry Toffolo is to leave the club as a free agent. And the club have now announced their full retained list, following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.

Like Toffolo, Boly’s contract is due to expire at the end of this month. The club hold an option to retain his services for a further 12 months and it appears they are keen to keep hold of the centre-back as a new deal is on the table.

Wayne Hennessey could also stay on at the City Ground beyond the end of his contract, with the Reds in discussion with the goalkeeper. Any offer is likely to involve a coaching role – something the 38-year-old was offered with Wales Under-21s earlier this year.

The Reds have announced full-back Alex Moreno is to return to parent club Aston Villa. Forest had an option to sign the 32-year-old on a permanent basis but have not taken that up.

Announcing their retained list, Forest said: “After making an invaluable contribution both on and off the pitch during his three years at the club, Harry Toffolo will be embarking on a new chapter upon the expiration of his contract. The 29-year-old, who made a total of 57 appearances for Forest, was named the Club’s PFA Community Champion for his work with Tricky to Talk – Nottingham Forest Community Trust’s mental health programme – which he later became an ambassador for in 2024. Toffolo departs the City Ground after three seasons, leaving with the sincere thanks and best wishes from everyone at Nottingham Forest.

“Elsewhere, Willy Boly has been offered the opportunity to extend his time on Trentside, whilst talks regarding Wayne Hennessey’s future role at the club continue. Alex Moreno has also returned to Aston Villa following the conclusion of his loan deal.”

Forest’s list of players aged 24 or over under contract is: Ola Aina, Taiwo Awoniyi, Josh Bowler, David Carmo, Emmanuel Dennis, Nicolás Domínguez, Danilo, Morgan Gibbs-White, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Carlos Miguel, Nikola Milenkovic, Morato, Lewis O’Brien, Omar Richards, Ibrahim Sangaré, Matz Sels, Jota Silva, Ramón Sosa, Matt Turner, Neco Williams, Chris Wood, Ryan Yates.

Players aged under 24 under contract: Zach Abbott, Elliot Anderson, Tyler Bindon, Aaron Bott, Eric da Silva Moreira, Anthony Elanga, Murillo, Andrew Omobamidele, Marko Stamenić.

Defender Jonathan Panzo is not included on the official list of players released but will also depart at the end of his contract. Reports have suggested the 24-year-old has already agreed a permanent deal with Rio Ave after spending last season on loan with the Portuguese outfit.
