In the upcoming days, Manchester City is anticipated to step up its chase of Lucas Paqueta,

a midfielder for West Ham United, with reports indicating a sum in excess of £80 million.

The Premier League winners are eager to bolster their already impressive roster, and with Kevin De Bruyne’s injury on Friday night,

club administrators are even more motivated to finalize a deal for a new midfield player.

Brazilian midfielder Paqueta has been identified as Manchester City’s best choice for the role in the upcoming weeks.

However, the London Stadium management is eager to keep the player,

and Paqueta will face a difficult test against West Ham in the coming days.

Lucas Paqueta’s desire to play for Manchester City, nevertheless, may play a significant role in his destiny.

New quotes have surfaced that will give supporters of the treble-winning team from the previous season a

great deal of optimism regarding their possibilities of seeing the 25-year-old in blue.

In an interview with Pod Delas from June of this year, which The Athletic translated and reprinted this week,

the West Ham player acknowledged that his childhood “dream” was to play for  teams like Manchester City and Celtic.

“I have no intention of leaving West Ham United,

but it’s evident that we have dreamed of playing for bigger clubs since we were young—Real Madrid, Celtic, Manchester City, Barcelona, etc.,” Paqueta clarified.

His current manager at West Ham, David Moyes,

expressed a similar sentiment last week when he talked about how hard it is to hang on to a player who has attention from some of Europe’s top teams, like City.

“It’s simple—we wouldn’t want Lucas (Paqueta) to go, but I also understand if you were in Lucas’s shoes,” Moyes said.

“Sometimes it is quite difficult to say to these boys,

‘Sorry, you can’t join Manchester City or Real Madrid,’ because they are two of the biggest clubs in the world,”

the former manager of Manchester United went on.

After their initial offer of £70 million was turned down by West Ham’s negotiating executives over the past several days,

Manchester City is anticipated to present a stronger verbal offer to the London club in the days to come.

As he anxiously awaits the prognosis of the hamstring injury he suffered in Friday night’s 0-3 victory over Burnley,

Kevin De Bruyne is scheduled to get a scan on his hamstring on Monday.

This is the Belgian’s second hamstring issue in as many weeks following the Champions League final.

Tuesday afternoon, City will travel to Athens in preparation for their UEFA Super Cup matchup with Sevilla, the winners of the Europa League.

This will be the club’s first-ever participation in the main event and Pep Guardiola’s first chance to win the trophy.
