‘Rangers  sign him’ – permanent move for ‘Terrific’ ace

Rangers will complete a permanent transfer for on-loan winger Oscar Cortes after a “terrific” start with the club, believes Jonny McFarlane.

The journalist stated on the Rangers Review Morning Briefing on 14 February that he expects the Colombian to become a “right good player” at Ibrox

and that the club will most likely keep him in Scotland after his temporary contract expires.

Cortes, 20, starred in his maiden Light Blues appearance, a 2-0 Scottish Cup win against Ayr United on February 10,

Oscar Cortes

and is expected to sign a long-term contract if the option in his loan arrangement is exercised.

McFarlane (15m) commented, “Cortes was terrific the other night, and he’s been really good since he signed.

” I realize he’s only had approximately 120 minutes, which isn’t much time to pass judgment,

but I admire his hard ethic. I admire his ambition to reach the byline.

“I believe he will be a very good player. “I think the Rangers will sign him.”

Cortes likely to make a permanent Rangers move.
According to early indications, this is not a loan agreement that will leave the Gers disillusioned,

as was the case with Malik Tillman and the threat posed by Abdallah Sima.

The latter’s loss to the latest long-term Rangers injury in January dealt a severe blow to the club’s aspirations of winning the Viaplay Cup again this season.

However, Philippe Clement appears to have recognized Cortes as a key component of the contingency plan in the absence of the Brighton loanee,

and he has made a great start.

McFarlane expects Oscar Cortes to join the Rangers on a permanent basis.

It may be early days following two SPFL substitute appearances and a single start against lower league opponents in the cup,

but three wins and a maiden assist at the weekend, while looking like a definite weapon in attack,

have quickly raised expectations.

He will, of course, need to improve on that over the season,

but unless his start at Ibrox proves to be a false dawn,

it appears probable that he will stay a member of the Clement side indefinitely.
