Rangers may live to regret not acquiring Bojan Miovski or Lawrence Shankland, according to reports, and Cyriel

Dessers might be too unpredictable to count on in a competition for the Scottish Premiership title.

Following a sharp upswing in performance just before Christmas, last week’s 2-1 victory over Aberdeen represented a regression to the trend.

Rangers made very hard work of Neil Warnock’s deep-lying Dons thanks to the clinical play of Cyriel Dessers,

who was back to seizing opportunities despite wastefulness and indiscretion.

Dessers has undoubtedly improved since Philippe Clement took over as manager at Ibrox, but he still only has eight goals in 21 league games.

In comparison, Aberdeen’s own Bojan Miovski and Lawrence Shankland have 13 and 17, respectively, and have broken the 20-goal mark in all competitions.

In addition, former Scotland international Charlie Mulgrew speculates in an interview with Clyde Super Scoreboard whether Rangers’ failure to sign a

new striker on the Glasgow side of the city may result in the trophy being covered in green and white ribbons once more come May.

Rangers still relying on Cyriel Dessers

In my opinion, Dessers appears to require three opportunities to score. Three or four opportunities,” Mulgrew claims.

“I wouldn’t like him to score if they hit the balls over the top in behind for Dessers.

“And I believe they made a mistake by not signing Bojan Miovski or Lawrence Shankland.”

Miovski, valued at roughly £8 million according to Sky Sports, was always expected to be beyond Rangers’ reach in the winter window.

According to CEO Andrew McKinlay, any Premiership team hoping to sign the prolific goal-poacher away from

Hearts would have to fork over a national record amount of nearly £4.5 million to acquire Shankland, the division’s Golden Boot leader.

Philippe Clement’s side can go top tonight

Rangers host Ross County at Ibrox tonight, Dessers likely to start again with Danilo still unavailable.

a win over a team sitting second-from-bottom will see Clement’s side draw level with Old Firm rivals Celtic at the top.

Rangers can even move into pole position if they beat Ross County by more than two clear goals.
