Rangers Moving to Sell Top In-Demand Player: Set Price Tag
Not that it would make Jack Butland’s departure any easier to accept, but selling players when the time is right has to be at the center of Rangers’ self-sufficiency philosophy.
In most cases, younger players in Gers manager Philippe Clement’s team would be expected to check this box, but the 30-year-old’s play has been so good that it has drawn notice from across the border.
At Ibrox, a game is not complete without his song being played, and Jack Butland’s performances have played a major role in the Rangers’ comeback to the title game.
Price for in-demand Jack Butland is set by Rangers.
It speaks for itself that England manager Gareth Southgate is thinking of calling up the nine-time cap stopper.
Although Butland’s injury and Aaron Ramsdale’s inability to play present him with some problems, it is a great compliment for Southgate and the goalkeeper coach of the national team to bring Butland back into the mix.
Rangers have found themselves in this exact situation with Jack Butland; few players in Scotland who reach their 30s have the potential to develop into such a valuable asset.
It’s understandable why Nottingham Forest’s January bid was turned down, as former Sky Sports reporter Pete O’Rourke purported (via Football Insider) that the Ibrox hierarchy values their top player at a fee of £10–15 million.
Given some of his performances in Europe and the league, playing for Rangers should not be any different from where his price tag would be if he were a Premier League player.
If someone could put their hands in their pockets and pay what we want, that would be even more of a boost for the club and the player than an international call-up.
