Alfredo Morelos is Rangers inspiration for Ibrox star as he looks to achieve what Colombian maverick did
The latest arrival at Rangers is aiming to emulate the former Ibrox striker after his January transfer
Alfredo Morelos is a big Rangers inspiration for Oscar Cortes.
The winger was named Man of the Match in an outstanding maiden start at Ibrox in the Scottish Cup against Ayr United,
which Philippe Clement’s team won 2-0. He is the latest Colombian to arrive in Govan,
following Morelos, the maverick forward who left last summer and is currently with Santos in Brazil.
Managers and coaches at the Premiership club have been supportive of Cortes since his January transfer from Ligue 1 side Lens,
with a permanent Rangers stay on the cards. He wants to put the Light Blues on the map like the striker before him.
In an interview with a radio station in his home country, Cortes stated,
“I know there is still a lot I can do to better my game. But I am really hopeful that I will be able to return to the national team.
I’ve heard a lot about Alfredo Morelos and the impact he had at Rangers because of all the goals he scored. He was really popular at Rangers.
“I will do everything I can to increase Colombia’s reputation in Scotland, just as he did.
Since I arrived, the players in the team have welcomed me warmly, and they have helped me along little by bit,
which has given me greater confidence.
“My goal is to gain as many minutes as possible in Scotland,
and that is why I am here. Rangers reminds me of playing for Millonarios.
They’re a good team who play football the way I enjoy it.
“In Scotland, you know that any game you play would leave you exhausted the next day due to the intensity of the matches.
