You might have been shocked to learn that Rabbi Matondo, a winger, was making his 50th appearance for the Ibrox team when he

came off the bench against Ayr United.

With great excitement, Rangers signed a bright young Bundesliga prospect in the summer of 2022,

with the expectation that the sky was the limit.

Having just come off a stunning season in Belgium with Cercle Brugge, the move to the Gers was supposed

to be Rabbi Matondo’s next big step in the game.

Rabbi Matondo reaches 50 games for Rangers

Excited about the transfer despite the high wages and reported £2.5 million paid to Schalke for his services, the 23-year-old has no

more excuses at Rangers after a disjointed 50 games marked by stuttering injuries and a lack of form, deterring interest from the

Premier League and Old Firm rivals Celtic. However, since then,

there has been a sense of sheepishness about the player.

For a player who has only really had an impact in spurts at Ibrox, it’s a significant accomplishment. The young Welshman saw a brief

blossoming of his career under Michael Beale, possibly because the manager

was well-known for his influence in the youth teams south of the border.

Since Philippe Clement has come in, Rabbi Matondo has struggled for fitness but now is the

one time £11m ex-Man City youth’s chance to finally leave his mark.

No more excuses for talented Ibrox winger

Given that Abdallah Sima will be out for the next two months, Rabbi Matondo will have a spot on the team.

Any grace period is officially over after 50 games at Ibrox where supporters have wavered around the winger.

Matondo’s career with the Rangers will be determined by the next 50 games, so by the time he reaches triple digits, hopefully we will be calling his signing a genius.

Rabbi Matondo has contributed nine assists and four goals to the Rangers’ 50 game total.
