According to Scott Wright, the Rangers’ winter break at La Mange has been crucial to stepping up their title challenge.

With a game remaining, Philippe Clement’s team leads rivals Celtic by just three points in the Premiership after

winning all five of their games since returning from Spain. The teams only have a two-goal difference, and the Light

Blues will make history by reaching the polls for the first time this season if they defeat Ross County at Ibrox on

Wednesday by a score of three goals.

This weekend’s Scottish Cup fifth round action takes precedence over league play. After winning the Viaplay Cup, the

Gers are still hoping for a quadruple, but Scott Brown, the former Celtic captain, will be looking to stop that when he

leads Ayr United to Govan. However, Rangers are winning, and Wright acknowledges that following the Old Firm

loss to Celtic in January, the groundwork was established.

“The manager came in and it was tough to start with because he couldn’t do much with us on the training pitch

because there was a game every two or three days,” he said. “The break in La Manga has been great for us. It was

absolutely critical for us, to be honest.

“You can see the things he wants to change on the pitch as he has been able to apply more of his ideas and a bit of his

style. We are attempting to put the foundational pieces in place that he has already installed and move things step by step in the proper direction.

“As I mentioned, in the two or three days that he spent with us on the training pitch, he had a great deal of difficulty

communicating his thoughts to us. We could focus on those things and had time to attempt and put them into

practice, so that camp was beneficial to us.”
