With a game remaining and a stronger team, Rangers are now only three points behind Celtic in the Scottish

Premiership. It’s safe to conclude that the team had a productive January. In an attempt to maintain that

momentum off the field, the Gers are allegedly planning a summer acquisition to make up for a deal that fell through during the winter window.

Rangers transfer news

By the end of the window, Rangers had welcomed Fabio Silva on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Mohamed

Diomande on loan from Nordsjaelland and Oscar Cortes on loan from Lens late in the window.

The Scottish powerhouses were unable in closing the deal for Fluminense left-back Jefte. Reportedly, the reason for

the collapse of the deal was Fluminense’s inability to terminate Jefte’s loan at APOEL Nicosia. The left-back’s parent

club was unwilling to pay APOEL’s demand of £500k to halt the move.

But that doesn’t imply there’s no hope left at all. Dean Jones reports that Rangers and Fluminense will hold open

discussions on a summer transfer for Jefte, who was demanding a change in January. “It’s always a nice sign if you

know that a player has been trying to cause a bit of a fuss to force a transfer to your club,” Jones stated to

Give Me Sport. Later on in the game, you should support that person.

That isn’t always how things turn out. Sometimes, that chance is lost. It has happened in a few well-known incidents

in the past. Joao Palhinha, for instance, was at one point close to joining Bayern Munich while playing for Fulham. It

never happened even though he was at the training ground, having completed all of his interviews and pictures.

There was no sign of that deal during the next transfer window.

Therefore, it’s not always the case that the player gets a second chance to initiate contact. Rangers, though, seemed

to like him, and they will definitely keep an eye on him going forward. I am aware that they will maintain contact

with the player to let him know he is still on their mind.

Jefte could finally solve Rangers’ left-back problem

Naturally, Rangers pursued Jefte in an attempt to solve Philippe Clement’s left-back dilemma. The Gers may not

have a left-back at all at the end of the season because Borna Barisic is expected to leave at the conclusion of his

contract this summer and Ridvan Yilmaz’s Rangers future is questionable.

And Jefte might be able to help there.

The 20-year-old’s age and improving potential mean he might soon establish himself as an Ibrox long-term

alternative. Jefte’s performance in the Scottish Premiership thus far this season has been impressive, as evidenced by

his three goals and four assists while playing full-back.

With no loan club involved for the left-back, a summer transfer should prove to be much simpler. However, it is

unclear if Rangers will be able to come to a deal with Fluminense and the

player in time for the upcoming transfer window.
