Chris Sutton blasts Rangers fans as controversial Celtic footage emerges on Sky Sports

Chris Sutton has attacked Rangers supporters who were debating whether Celtic should have been given a penalty during their 2-1 victory over Hibernian on Wednesday, February 8.

After Rangers’ 2-1 victory over Aberdeen on February 6 pulled them level on points with the Hoops at the top of the Scottish Premiership, Sutton posted on his personal X account on February 7 as Celtic prepared to respond against Hibs.

Following two penalties from Adam Idah and video that surfaced from Sky Sports Scotland on February 7, which showed Kyogo Furuhashi being adjudged to have been fouled inside the box by Joe Newell following VAR intervention, Brendan Rodgers’ team took a three-point lead once more.

Sutton also attacked Rangers supporters who believe referee Nick Walsh made incorrect calls regarding penalties on his X account. “How are people (mostly bears) even debating over the award of this?” he wrote. Nick Walsh was right about both of tonight’s penalties.

Celtic respond forcefully to Rangers’ declaration.

Sutton doesn’t know everyone who may have complained, so it’s puzzling how he came to the conclusion that Rangers supporters were the ones arguing about the penalty calls the majority of the time.

The former Celtic striker appears to be feeling the pressure from Philippe Clement’s team following their decisive victory over Aberdeen, which has undoubtedly caused the Hoops to become increasingly anxious as the race for the Scottish Premiership title heats up.

Even though their performance wasn’t perfect, Celtic still had to perform well against Hibs. Based on the game

footage of Furuhashi’s incident, it appears that VAR made the right decision. However, one can only imagine the

outcry from Sutton and Celtic supporters if the decision had not been made.

Rangers supporters will have felt that after seeing Dujon Sterling sent off by referee Don Robertson for sticking to his

on-field ruling following VAR intervention—despite the fact that the foul was obviously a yellow rather than a red—

Celtic should have been the subject of a contentious decision themselves. Sutton’s tirade on Twitter is sure to inflame

Light Blues supporters, which adds to the excitement of this possible championship race.
