Chris Sutton and Kris Boyd agreed that Rangers’ Dujon Sterling should not have been sent off, although possible handballs against Connor Goldson provoked disagreement.

Don Robertson ordered the Light Blues star packing before sending the whistler to the monitor for a reconsideration of his decision following a VAR check. However, after watching the episode again on the television, he chose to stick to his original decision. It is an unusual outcome in Scottish football since the advent of technology, and while Sutton disagreed with the call, he praised the man in the center for sticking to his guns.

He told Sky Sports: “I didn’t think that was a red card. But, do you know what? Good luck, Don. He perceived it as a red and went to look at the monitor, sticking to his decision despite all of the pressure here at Ibrox. I just think it was mistimed; he slides afterward, and it’s a yellow card offense.”

Boyd continued: “I agree with Chris. Is there any speed there? Yeah. Maybe. But that’s the only box it checks. Endangering the opponent? No. Is there a chance of playing ball? Yes. Intent? No. It’s not high; it’s the sole of the foot. Not at the ankles. He has not left the ground. I believe it is the wrong decision.

Eilidh Barbour then highlighted two Rangers ‘handball’ incidents that generated disagreement in the studio among Sutton, Boyd, and former Aberdeen goalkeeper Joe Lewis, but added that there was a foul between the two calls. Sutton: “You’ve got the first one here that hits Goldson’s arm, which is out. But I think this one will go in. He’s falling in front of the ball, making himself bigger. Is that hitting him below the shirt line? Let us have a look here.I believe it does.

Boyd: “This is the supporting arm, back to goal. And if we go back a few weeks, I believe Celtic played at Rugby Park. “You didn’t say that there.”

Lewis: “What’s the first one?” Boyd: “Doesn’t make his body larger, though. That’s a natural position.

Lewis: Is that a natural position? He isn’t jumping, is he? Boyd: “This is a natural position for me. “You have changed your tune.”

Sutton: “That’s possible. If it had been on the other end, I’m sure they would have checked it. I think it hits him much lower than the one at Rugby Park.”

Boyd: “Oh, okay. It was never a penalty at Rugby Park, however. Who did Kilmarnock play that day? When I mentioned it was a penalty at Rugby Park, I was urged to follow the laws of the game. The regulations of the game state that it is a supporting arm with his back to goal.”

Sutton, on the other hand: “They are fortunate Rangers not to have that awarded against them.” Lewis said, “I think the first one more than the second one.” Boyd: “Talk about grasping for straws. Let us go forward.
