Chris Sutton rubbishes talk about ‘Excellent’ Rangers star, Kris Boyd disagrees

Regarding whether Rangers keeper Jack Butland could make the England squad for the forthcoming European Championships, Chris Sutton and Kris Boyd disagreed.

Despite acknowledging that he’s been “excellent” for the Gers this season, Sutton said he didn’t think the 30-year-old would be included in Gareth Southgate’s squad in an interview with Sky Sports Football on Tuesday, February 6, at 7:34 p.m.

However, Boyd acknowledged that he “wouldn’t rule it out” given that Nick Pope is currently sidelined for Newcastle United with an injury and Sam Johnstone of Crystal Palace and Aaron Ramsdale of Arsenal aren’t currently playing.

Sutton responded, “No, I think his form has been excellent this season, and I agree with everything you’ve said.” His temperament is crucial, in my opinion. You have to deal with environments like this whether you play for the Rangers or Celtics.

“He doesn’t save many shots, and he performs admirably when called upon. However, I don’t believe he’ll be attending the Euros, do you?

“I truly don’t know,” Boyd answered. “Pickford is without a doubt the best; there’s no denying it. I notice Ramsdale sitting on the bench at Arsenal; he doesn’t play much. Sam Johnstone is not playing; he was in the England team the last time around.

I am aware that Nick Pope is hurt and Dean Henderson is currently playing. Should I rule him out? No, I wouldn’t.

“So, is that a yes?” inquired Sutton.

Boyd said, “I wouldn’t rule it out.”

Why is Jack Butland not deserving of an England recall?
When Butland moved north of the border, there were high expectations about how good he could be for the Rangers, but it’s likely that he has already exceeded them.

He was eager to get into the first team and play regularly after spending several years on the bench at Crystal Palace and then on loan at Manchester United the previous season.
