Michael Stewart has criticized Celtic for allowing bitter rivals Rangers to re-enter the title race,

while also complimenting Philippe Clement’s efforts.

Celtic were seven points clear in the Scottish Premiership at the time of Michael Beale’s dismissal in early October,

and it appeared that a third-straight league title would be on the way to Parkhead following a sluggish start for the Light Blues.

However, a combination of good Rangers play and a lack of Celtic drive during the festive season has left the Ibrox club just three points behind their opponents with a game in hand.

It has reignited the title fight, and with 14 games remaining, we are poised for a thrilling finale to the season – but Stewart believes Celtic will be left shorthanded by the end of the season,

and he predicts Rangers will overcome their rivals with their current momentum.

Stewart told BBC Sportsound: “Cameron Carter-Vickers is out injured again, Reo Hatate is out injured again,

and they haven’t been able to get the nucleus of their team available all season.

They’ve also never had a solid stretch in which their performance and results appeared to be trending in the correct direction. The current situation is concerning.

“The Rangers are in a great position. Philippe Clement has arrived and appears to be a maestro at the time,

stating that in a marathon, you should never focus on the runner at the front; instead,

go yourself and acquire results. He’s still speaking like that. And, piece by bit,

Celtic has surrendered points, allowing Rangers to fight their way back into a league race that they should never have been in.

“Celtic have dropped far too many cheap points, not at Pittodrie, but given their performance there,

where are all the leaders? I don’t see them or the match winners. It is difficult to see that.

The second-half performance shows that…you look at the players  they’ve brought in.

“Lagerbielke, not working. Thiago Holm has a project, but I’m not sure if it’ll work.

Yang has not worked. [Maik] Nawrocki, not working.

All of these individuals that came in over the summer have done nothing to help the club.

Paulo Bernardo has been given a run of games, but I have to be honest:

I don’t see it with him. I do not see him as a Rodgers-type player. “I don’t see tempo in his game.”

Then, when asked who he thinks may win the league, Stewart was harsh in his response.

He went on to remark, “I truly believe it is difficult to call. Rangers are on the margin.

The momentum is with them, and unless Celtic get their vital  players back pronto and start to turn things around from Wednesday at Easter Road – where Rodgers has never won a game – they could be in trouble from a position they should never have been allowed to let slip.”
