Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers soon adjusts his tune as arrogant post-match comments about Rangers from December linger on him.

The Parkhead boss is under pressure after squandering a seven-point lead in the title chase,

creating a Premiership tussle not seen in 13 years.

Rangers, who continue to win routinely under Philippe Clement’s leadership,

appear to be a more difficult team to beat and are developing as title contenders.

But for the time being, it’s neck-and-neck, and after firing Philippe Clement as the sixth manager he’d swatted away at Parkhead,

Brendan Rodgers appears to have expected nothing less.

Brendan Rodgers “expected” Rangers’ title challenge.

While Philippe Clement refused to comment on Brendan Rodgers or Celtic following their victory over Livingston,

Rodgers did deliver some soundbites about Rangers over the weekend.

You could practically see the Parkhead manager’s shirt straining around his neck as he praised Rangers and stated he “expected nothing more” than a championship contest.

“I expected nothing more,” Rodgers remarked. “You come into each season expecting it.

“I think some people will think it may be ten or fifteen points, but any competitive club or team will always make sure they’re ready to fight.

“But so are we. We have dropped points in far too many games, but you must keep fighting and striving,

and we will soon have our squad back.

“But all we can do is concentrate on ourselves.” No other team dropped points today save ourselves, so we must concentrate solely on our own game.”

Celtic manager rejects Rangers manager challenge.

In contrast, Rodgers made haughty comments following Celtic’s 2-1 Old Firm victory against Rangers in December.

Using Rodgers’ old ‘can you see the Rangers coming’ shtick from 2016, when he faced a Rangers in recovery, the statements appeared to have the potential to haunt the former Liverpool manager.

“Over my two spells here, Scott, I’ve worked against five Rangers managers,” he remarked. “And every time Rangers came.

“Everytime, at some point. So, for me, it’s normal. As I mentioned the other day, if I listened to the media and the press, we’d be in perpetual crisis mode and fearful of Rangers.

“But this is the fifth manager lately. So, for me, my emphasis is solely Celtic, and I am extremely focused on here, and much of the other material that may be floating around, I gratefully disregard.

The happy, arrogant, overconfident attitude is no longer appropriate.

We had a sneaking sensation that the Celtic manager would come to regret his words, and Rangers fans have them bookmarked in case Philippe Clement wins this season.

There’s still a lot to accomplish until the end of the season, but it begs the question for Rodgers: can you see us now?
