Scouting Report for the Chicago Bears Senior Bowl: OC/OG Jackson Powers-Johnson
It was expected that Ryan Poles and the Chicago Bears would be interested in University of Oregon center Jackson Powers-Johnson heading into the Senior Bowl. Powers-Johnson was considered one of the best centers before the Bears’ sessions in Mobile.
The team has a huge need at center.
It’s safe to say that his performance in Mobile, AL, benefited after two days of practice.
The Chicago Bears witnessed Jackson Powers-Johnson’s dominance in the Senior Bowl up close and personal.
Jackson Powers-Johnson, who is 6 feet 3 inches tall and 334 pounds, has only improved since arriving in Mobile for the Senior Bowl.
He is an extremely athletic and powerful center. It’s unusual to watch him lose the rep after getting out man red by a move. But Jackson Powers-Johnson is unique because of the muscle that separates his two ears. JPJ’s stats demonstrated his intelligence as a center who rarely plays out of place. He gave up to a single, isolated pressure point during the 2023 season. Just one! JPJ didn’t quit making an impression at that point. In addition, he received a unanimous First-Team All-American selection.
In the program’s history, only four other Oregon Ducks—LaMichael James, Marcus Mariota, Penei Sewell, and Kayvon Thibodeaux—were selected unanimous First-Team All-Americans.
Jackson Powers, for the big lads who don’t always get their day in the lime light Johnson isn’t showing any signs of slowing down; he has earned every honor.
Given his performance at the Senior Bowl, the Chicago Bears might consider acquiring a few additional first-round draft picks. It doesn’t seem like Jackson Powers-Johnson will have to wait long on the first day of the NFL Draft, so Ryan Poles will need to work extra draft-day magic if the Bears hope to select the top center available.
Especially after his first two days of practice at the Senior Bowl, there’s very little reason to think JPJ makes it to the second round. Even if he recovered from a hamstring injury sustained on the second practice day, it’s likely that he won’t be taking any more reps at the Senior Bowl given his elevated draft ranking.
Overall, Jackson Powers Johnson has emerged as one of the Senior Bowl’s biggest winners to date, both literally and figuratively.
