Russell Wilson‘s football career in 2024 is unknown, but a split with the Denver Broncos appears likely.

In light of this, former All-Pro linebacker Chad Brown issued a caution to the NFL team that chooses to acquire the quarterback.

Speaking on the “Zach Gelb Show,” Brown argued that by deviating from the game plan, Wilson undermined head coach Sean Payton, and teams interested in the nine-time Pro Bowler should be wary.

Brown stated, “That’s the kind of guy you’re going to get.”

“The play-caller needs to know that as well, so their offense is going to have to be schemed in a way where they’re not going to be crushingly disappointed that

‘I’ve been working for three quarters to set up this play, and now this guy bails out at the line of scrimmage or decides not to go to his first progression because the pass-rush is giving him a little bit of pressure.'”

Brown conveyed that Wilson, who frequently went “schoolyard,” disagreed with Payton’s strategy of setting up defenses early with the intention of following up in the second half,

upsetting any aspirations of the offense developing a rhythm.

After a dismal first season with the Broncos, Wilson did show improvement, finishing with a 66% completion percentage, 26 touchdown passes, and just eight interceptions in 15 starts.

The Broncos offense, on the other hand, was only 19th in the NFL, and the quarterback’s statistical comeback did not result in any victories as Denver finished 7-8 during his starts.

Wilson is still a Bronco for the time being, but that may not last. He has a guaranteed salary of $39 million in 2024,

and many believe the organization will cut him before the official NFL league season starts.

Furthermore, a $37 million 2025 injury guarantee kicks in if he’s not dealt or terminated before March 5.

Wilson, who is 35 years old, has not indicated that he intends to retire anytime soon, so he will play someplace next season.

Opportunities for veterans should exist, but they may be restricted if decision-makers observe what Brown does.
