Derek Ferguson stated that Rangers would only consider selling Jack Butland on Deadline Day for a “crazy figure”

of £20 million.

The former Rangers player said it would be a “scary thought” to lose the “absolutely phenomenal” England goalkeeper, who

he rates as better than Three Lions number one Jordan Pickford.

On Wednesday, January 31, STV announced that Nottingham Forest had made an inquiry regarding Butland, while the Daily

Record stated that an other Premier League team that remained nameless was also considering the 30-year-old.

Ferguson considers Butland to be one of the best goalkeepers to have ever played for the team, and he only moved to

Ibrox on a free transfer in the summer.

He believes that only an enormous offer would be considered for a deadline-busting sell.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “Don’t even go there!

“Butland was available for free. Now that I’m talking, this is merely based on his outstanding performances this season.

But it goes beyond just his work; it also involves the way he conducts himself.

“He has a certain grandeur and presence as a custodian, and the supporters adore him.

I’m not even kidding when I say that he’s good—I’m talking about almost £20 million before you would ever entertain the idea.

You know what, he outperforms Pickford. I mean business when I say that we have had the good fortune to have

goalkeepers like Andy Goram, Allan McGregor, and Butland in recent years.

“He came from Manchester United and we’re going to get the best years out of him as well.

He’s at a brilliant age, keepers only get better with age.

“I watch the highlights of English games and that, he’s been absolutely phenomenal and it’s actually a scary thought that

we could lose him and I know money talks, that’s why I’ve maybe come up with that crazy figure of £20m, I think if

someone came in £10m-plus they’d have to look it because it would be tremendous business.

“But how do you fill that gap? I know we’ve got McCrorie who’s more often than not in the Scotland squad but I just think

he’s a level above everybody else up here in this division.

“I think he should be at least in that England squad for the Euros.

It’s everything about him, it’s not just what he does in the game, it’s the whole package and that’s why the

fans love him and he gets the fans.

“He gets the club; many players who have joined Rangers from England have had this happen to them. Something happens

when you visit the Rangers football club—the Butchers, Chris Woods, Ray Wilkins, Trevor Francis—for whatever reason

they are passionate about it.

“Jack Butland enjoys playing for the Rangers, and the supporters love him too, long may it continue.”
