Unbelievable: Rangers captain rumored to be absent from the upcoming matches
Rangers’ James Tavernier insists they are solely focused on themselves after a rare setback under Philippe Clement.
But the Ibrox captain will have been relieved to see what happened at Tynecastle yesterday, as Celtic squandered a
golden opportunity to move ahead of the big Belgian table-toppers. After barely having their fingers on the
Premiership top for a fortnight, it appeared that Gers would lose pole position following Saturday’s shock defeat to Motherwell.
However, Rangers remain the team to beat following Brendan Rodgers’ crash in Gorgie. With nine games remaining,
including two Old Firm encounters, the race appears to be coming down to the wire. And Tavernier is sure that his
team can get back on track. He replied, “We have amazing characteristics. It’s only our second defeat under the boss.
“We have nine games left in the league, so we will surely fight to the finish. That is our philosophy, and we will continue to push ourselves.
“We’ve just got to concentrate on ourselves and get the maximum points that we can going forward, and that is what we will be trying to do.”
Tavernier was sent out to put a brave face on a thoroughly poor performance, with goals from Theo Bair and Dan
Casey condemning Gers to their first top-flight home defeat over the Steelmen since 1997. And he couldn’t deny that
Clement’s side only had themselves to blame for ending their run of ten consecutive Premiership victories at Ibrox
under the big Belgian.
”We’re all human,” said the skipper, whose second-half penalty momentarily tied the game before Casey snatched
victory for Stuart Kettlewell’s side. “After a draw or defeat, you’re always going to feel depressed.
“This is going to hurt. It hurts the fans, us, the manager, and everyone associated with the Rangers. However, it is
important to consider how quickly you recover. We’ll reflect on it and make improvements in the future.
