Lewis Ferguson is starting to resemble one of those famous “one that got away” stories, with rumours of a

£20 million move to some of Serie A’s biggest clubs.

Rangers “rejected” the opportunity to recruit the ten-time Scotland international before he was a fixture in the first team at

Pittodrie, despite expressing interest in him during the summer of 2021, 12 months before he relocated to Italy.

Now that several Premier League clubs and other Serie A teams are showing interest, all signs lead to a

massive financial transfer at some point in the future.

Rangers could have signed Lewis Ferguson

“Ferguson was rejected at 14 by Rangers,” Bil McMurdo, the 24-year-old’s agent, tells CalcioNapoli24.

“(He) came to me to tell me that this had not affected him at all and, in the future, he would play in Serie A.

Already at 14, he had a dream of playing for Italy.”

Now the captain of a Bologna side chasing Champions League qualification under Thiago Motta,

Ferguson is certainly now living that ‘dream’. Like many members of Motta’s squad – including the Manchester United-

linked centre-forward Joshua Zirkzee –

Ferguson is also catching the eye of the biggest clubs in the country, with the Rossoblu potentially a victims of their own recent success.

Serie A giants linked

According to reports, Ferguson is currently worth about £20 million. One of the biggest disappointments in

Rangers’ recent history, at least in terms of the transfer market, must be the nephew of former Ibrox captain Barry Ferguson,

with players like Albert Gudmundsson, Jarrad Branthwaite, and Andreas Skov Olson.

On Sunday, Philippe Clement’s team easily advanced to the Scottish Cup semifinals. John Lundstram and

Fabio Silva scored goals to help Rangers defeat Hibernian 2-0 in the quarterfinals.
