Lions agree to deals with Marcus Davenport, Graham Glasgow; acquire Carlton Davis, AP sources say

DETROIT (AP) — Two days before the new league year kicks off, on Monday, the Detroit Lions took care of three urgent requirements.

Marcus Davenport, an edge rusher, and Detroit reached an agreement on a $10.5 million,

one-year contract, according to a person with

knowledge of the negotiations who spoke anonymously because the agreement was still being completed.

The Lions also acquired cornerback Carlton Davis from Tampa Bay for a third-round draft pick and agreed to a $20 million, three-year

contract that has $9.5 million in guarantees with guard Graham Glasgow, another person familiar with the situation told The Associated

Press on condition of anonymity because the deals had not been announced.

Davenport rejoins defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and Detroit coach Dan Campbell, who both worked as assistants for the New

Orleans Saints for three of Davenport’s five seasons there.

Drafted No. 14 overall in 2018, the 27-year-old Davenport has amassed 23 1/2 career sacks. After missing much of his one and only season

with the Vikings due to an ankle ailment, he finished the previous season with two sacks in four games. Davenport finished the 2021

season with New Orleans with a career-high nine sacks in 11 games.

In return for the 92nd overall pick in the NFL draft, Davis offers the Lions experience and quality in their secondary, which was frequently

exploited during the previous campaign.

Over the course of his six seasons with the Buccaneers, 27-year-old Davis has started over ten games. The former Auburn standout has

made 75 starts overall since his second-round selection in 2018. Over the previous five seasons,

Davis has intercepted nine passes, including two last season.

Detroit potentially could have re-signed two guards, but chose to keep the 31-year-old Glasgow for a relatively cap-friendly deal after he

started in three playoff games. The Lions let Jonah Jackson hit the NFL free agent market

after his second straight injury-shortened season.

A person with knowledge of the agreement claims that the 27-year-old Jackson and the Los Angeles Rams reached an agreement on a

three-year contract that may be worth $51 million, with $34 million guaranteed.

The NFL teams were given permission on Monday afternoon to begin talks with players whose contracts expire on Wednesday, the first

day of the new league year, and who would then become unrestricted free agents. Only players who

will be unrestricted free agents are eligible for the two-day negotiation window.
