“Listen…” – Gers star fires back as £1.5m signing lets numbers do the talking
Under Philippe Clement, Rangers still have a ways to go, but now that Todd Cantwell is taking the reins, there’s a chance he can do what appeared impossible before.
One such tweak has been moving Todd Cantwell back into a more advanced position for Rangers where we all know that he plays his best football.
Rangers position shift can see Todd Cantwell drive success
The front four players must perform, and the 25-year-old playmaker is peaking at the ideal moment. Cantwell, a £1.5
million addition, has previously attempted to control play from midfield and behind the ball, but as the player
himself has stated via The Rangers Review, sometimes little is more:
“Listen, it’s evident that I’m playing as a different No. 10 than I did previously. The way we are playing is different in
terms of style and technique. I’m not being asked to play like I was the previous season, as you can see.
“I see a lot of comments. Todd’s not getting involved. Todd’s not doing this. But I am being asked to play differently
and it is working. The numbers are coming through,
I am enjoying myself so let’s just enjoy it.”
Todd Cantwell may not be as active in the games as he once was, but it’s obvious that the Rangers management has
given him permission to be bolder with the ball and in his positioning.
Instead, let others develop the play and position themselves to cause issues for the team.
Cantwell, who was man of the match against Livingston at Ibrox, is now fusing imagination and work rate.
He looks to disrupt lines, play wingers in behind, or split defences to find runners rather than just recycle ball.
His own runs are paying off, as evidenced by the four goals he has scored in his last six league outings.
Todd advises to just enjoy it, and it’s obvious that he is.
