Wolves Boss Targets FA Cup Glory Against Coventry

Gary O’Neil and his coaching staff are set to delve deep into analysis this week as Wolverhampton Wanderers gear up to face Coventry City in their pursuit of FA Cup glory.

Following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Brighton in the fifth round, courtesy of Mario Lemina’s early goal, Wolves are primed for their quarter-final clash against the Sky Blues. Saturday’s fixture at Molineux marks only the second time since 2003 that Wolves have reached this stage of the competition.

O’Neil’s ambitions for FA Cup success have been unwavering, with the manager emphasizing his goal of lifting the prestigious trophy at Wembley this year. Reflecting on their journey thus far, O’Neil remarked, “When we set off to travel to Brentford I remember delivering the pre-match meeting and spoke about our aim, at that moment, was to win the FA Cup.”

He continued, acknowledging the challenges along the way, “I know how farfetched that sounds but every win you get a step closer. We have had to give a lot to get here.”

Looking ahead to the encounter with Coventry, O’Neil emphasized the importance of not underestimating their opponents. “Coventry will be a massive test,” he stated. “They are a good side, play good football and we will be expected to roll them over by everyone outside and that can create problems.”

Regardless of the opposition, O’Neil sees the quarter-final as a prime opportunity for Wolves. “Whoever we played in the quarter-final we would see it as a great chance,” he affirmed. “We’ve beat Chelsea twice and Tottenham and Man City here. We love playing here, I’m sure they (fans) will be dreaming of a semi-final and I’ll be analysing Coventry.”
