Celtic And Rangers Missed Opportunity – Ex-Top Flight Star On Lawrence Shankland
Former Hearts man Allan Preston has insisted that Celtic and Rangers missed a trick by not trying to sign Lawrence Shankland in the winter transfer window.
When his team defeated Celtic 2-0 at Tynecastle on Sunday,
the Hearts captain was once again on point.It was his 27th goal of the season across all competitions and his 20th goal of the Scottish Premiership in 29 games.
The attacker was rumored to be joining Celtic or Rangers during the January transfer window,
however neither Glasgow team pursued him.
Preston emphasized that Celtic and Rangers erred in not trying to recruit Shankland and that he would be scoring more goals for a team that creates more chances.
The forward wants to stay at Tynecastle longer, therefore the former Hearts defender is eager to see him sign a new contract with the team.
“Look at how many goals he has scored for Hearts, how many would he score for Celtic or Rangers?” Preston remarked on BBC Radio Scotland.
“I want him to stay here for as long as he wants to be here;
Hearts fans don’t get on my nerves by suggesting that I want him to go to Celtic or Rangers.
However,
I believe that neither of them took advantage of the January window.
“I truly hope that he signs an extension at Tynecastle;
it was fantastic for Hearts.”
In the summer, Shankland will begin the last year of his current Hearts deal.
