Rangers could pursue Hearts player Lawrence Shankland during the summer transfer window, according to new information from commentator Frank McAvennie.

The Gers may be at the top of the Scottish Premiership league as the season comes to a close, but they have not always had free-flowing attackers. James Tavernier leads his team’s right-back scoring with 17 goals, followed by Cyriel Dessers and Abdallah Sima, who each have 14 goals.

Rangers appear to be focusing on securing the services of certain key offensive players this summer, according to multiple reports.

In fact, a permanent move for Sima is reported to be on their radar, and Brighton are willing to let him go if they get a bid of £10-15 million at the end of the season. According to a different source, Fabio Silva might make his loan move permanent after making a solid start at Ibrox, netting three goals in his first 12 outings.

Aside from current loanees, Shankland was linked with a move to Rangers during the January transfer window, but he has stayed put for the time being. Depending on what the Rangers do with Sima and Silva, Shankland has to be regarded a priority target, with his brilliance highlighting what a powerful weapon he might be for Philippe Clement. Meanwhile, Livingston manager David Martindale praised him in the past, saying:

“When I look at him and compare him, he’s completely different from (Celtic striker) Kyogo, but he’s similar to (former Rangers forward Alfredo) Morelos.” Lawrence has a stronger overall game and a better mentality. It was a tough call when Morelos was at his peak, but I’d go with Lawrence. 18 goals in all competitions halfway through a season is a remarkable figure. It’s not just against us; he’s scoring a variety of finishes against everyone.”
