If this team wasn’t interested, they wouldn’t have just thrown the meeting in the first place. Given how well the meeting went, there ought to be more substantive discussions starting next week.
Wilson is unquestionably superior to any player on the squad. The starting job would go to him even before training camp started. After Mason Rudolph and Kenny Pickett came and went for another season. The Steelers reportedly want to bring in a quarterback to at least challenge for the starting job.
Wilson is scheduled to earn $40 million from the Denver Broncos in addition to the $7 million the Steelers would likely offer him. The squad will be able to keep building around their quarterback in free agency and the draft if they pay him so little. We’ll see how long this decision takes as free agency is less than a week away.
