Update:Former rangers captain encourages Rangers to sign £4 million ace who will be ‘a really top player’.
Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson has urged the Scottish Premiership rivals to seal a permanent transfer for
Mohamed Diomande, describing the loanee as a’really outstanding talent’.
During his tenure at Nordsjaelland in Denmark, the skilled center midfielder was frequently chastised for his lack of
goals and assists in a box-to-box role.
However, with two goals in his first eight Rangers appearances and his first assist for Philippe Clement’s side against
Benfica in the UEFA Europa League, Mohamed Diomande’s supposed weaknesses are beginning to turn into
strengths, with the Ivorian combining brilliantly with fellow winter arrival Fabio Silva before setting up Tom
Lawrence’s opener in Lisbon.
Combine that newfound attacking output with his passion and energy in the heart of the pitch, and Ferguson is sure
that a permanent deal worth around £4 million will be excellent value.
Mohamed Diomande is a huge hit for Rangers.
“He’s settled in really quickly,” says the former Ibrox captain, who won five Scottish Premiership titles in two periods
in Glasgow, on Go Radio.
“Sometimes you need some time to settle in. But, listen, he can move across the pitch, has a goal in him, is good on
the ball, and breaks play up. I believe he possesses all of the qualities required of a very elite player.
“It suits the Rangers model. I believe the fee is around the £4 million mark. For me, they must go and do it. I believe
they plan to sign him.
“Further down the line, if he keeps playing and improving the way that he is, he’s one Rangers could make a few bob
off.”
There have already been three goal contributions.
Rangers completed three acquisitions in January, and all have had a significant impact so far, with the club’s
recruiting in the Philippe Clement-Nils Koppen period already looking considerably better than it did under Mick
Beale. Fabio Silva was terrific at previous club Benfica on Thursday, while Oscar Cortes was also a big hit until his
recent injury.
