Rangers on track for stunning £20m transfer boost
According to insiders who spoke to Football Insider, Rangers will increase their transfer budget by almost £20 million if they are able
to play in the Champions League the following year.
The Glasgow giants have closed the seven-point deficit that separated them from Celtic at
the top of the Scottish Premiership standings.
If Philippe Clement’s side are able to hold on to to top spot and lift the club’s 56th league title, they will automatically qualify for the
2024-25 Champions League.
The prestigious European competition is changing to a Swiss-style format next season which includes an additional four teams and
removes the group stages.
Instead, teams will play in a league format which guarantees that Rangers will host a minimum of four home games at Ibrox.
Additional payments from the UK broadcasting market pool and coefficient payments will add to that figure – and prize money is
expected to increase further next season under the new model.
Moreover, Rangers would also secure massively increased matchday revenue, particularly from corporate hospitality,
as a result of hosting Champions League matches.
According to sources who spoke with Football Insider, Rangers would be able to add about £20 million to their summer transfer
budget if they qualified.
It would give Clement extra money to spend during his first summer transfer window as Rangers manager.
