According to a new transfer report, Celtic is interested in signing a player this summer who is comparable to Italy and AC Milan star Paolo Maldini.

With a wealth of experience under his belt and many more years to play at a high level, the 26-year-old is in a fantastic position to arrive at Parkhead and make an early impact.

Smal has played in 16 Eredivisie games for Twente this season in addition to two appearances in the UEFA Europa Conference League. The fact that he has been compared to Italy’s national treasure and given the nickname “Smaldini” back home may be the greatest compliment anyone could give him.
