What the two managers said after Rangers’ 3-0 win over Livingston at Ibrox

Rangers manager Philippe Clement said that defender Leon Balogun “probably broke something in his face” in the club’s 3-0 Premiership victory against Livingston, which moved them within striking distance of leaders Celtic.

After colliding with Livi’s Shaun Donnellan, the 35-year-old was substituted by John Souttar after only 22 minutes at Ibrox Stadium.

Portuguese striker Fabio Silva, who joined Rangers on loan from Wolves last month, opened the scoring against the league’s worst club in the 40th minute, before winger Rabbi Matondo added a second in first-half stoppage time.

Todd Cantwell scored the third goal for the Gers in the 56th minute, moving Clement’s team three points behind leaders Celtic with a game in hand.

When asked about Balogun after the game, the Belgian replied, “Not good, but good in a way. It is not good because he had a serious injury; he most likely broke something in his face.

“On the plus side, he is a warrior and has prior experience with such situations. He believes he can return quickly with a mask, and I hope that is the case. The medical professionals must make that decision.”

Clement stated, “That’s the good thing about being a fan. Prior to becoming a player, I was also a fan. That’s a completely other life. We know exactly what we need to execute our jobs, and that is complete attention.

“When you start thinking about others, you begin to lose things for yourself. We will not fall into that trap as a squad. I am pleased with the team in that I have not heard the name of any other team during the week.

“Everyone is focused on Rangers, not his ego, but the team. There is a really fantastic team mindset presently in that locker room, and I’m going to be really strict on that.
