Report Update:Three major names the Dallas Cowboys should avoid in free agency.

Report Update:Three major names the Dallas Cowboys should avoid in free agency.

With less than $9 million available under the NFL’s new salary ceiling, the Cowboys cannot afford blunders in free

agency. These brilliant players take on too much danger.

RB Devin Singletary

With free agency running back Tony Pollard expected to receive offers in the two-year, $20 million bracket, Dallas

may be seeking for a bargain at the position. Singletary would cost lot less, but it may not be worth it.

Singletary led the Texans in rushing with 898 yards and four touchdowns after defeating Dameon Pierce for the

starting job, although his 4.2 yards per carry average was the lowest in his five-year career.

The 26-year-old running back scored just two touchdowns in the team’s last five games, including the regular-season

finale, where he averaged 2.6 yards per attempt. With a planned salary of $4.25 million per year, he’d be ideal as part

of a committee but not the lead back the Cowboys require.

LT Trent Brown

If Dallas loses perennial Pro Bowler Tyron Smith, finding a new left tackle should be the first priority. The former

Patriot would have been an obvious option if not for his chronic weight concerns throughout his career.

Brown is currently registered at 370 pounds, but he admits to having weighed as much as 387 pounds in the past.

Now I’m wondering whether the Patriots added weight limitations to his contract in each of the last two seasons.

They say everything is larger in Texas, but with an estimated $15 million price tag, Dallas cannot afford to take a

chance on the soon-to-be 30-year-old veteran.

DT DJ Reader.

Neville Gallimore and Jonathan Hankins are both free agents, while rookie tackle Mazi Smith underperformed last

season. After Chris Jones of the Chiefs, Reader could be the best (and most costly) free agency tackle available.

Cincinnati’s outstanding interior lineman could cost a team more than $45 million over the next three years, but, like

Brown, he carries danger.

Reader suffered a ruptured quad in Week 15, his second in four years as a Bengal. The eight-year veteran has not

played a full season since 2015, missing 22 games in the last four years.

Reader might fit into any team when healthy, but with no room for error under the salary cap, Dallas better hope

Smith can find another gear in 2024.
