Brendan Rodgers: Getting to Hampden again is a big motivation for us

In his post-match comments following last week’s 2-0 loss to Hearts, the Celtic manager criticized the match officials, particularly John Beaton who was working as a VAR.

After fifteen minutes, Celtic were down to ten men. Beaton proposed a trackside analysis of Yang Hyun-jun’s challenge. Celtic has already had their appeal against that ruling turned down by the SFA.

The worst was yet to come: a penalty against Tomoki Iwata for a handball that, according to almost every commentator, was awarded ahead of halftime. Beaton also had a role in the decision.

My observations over a large number of games center on the inconsistent decisions. It’s my responsibility to protect the team and the club, and that’s what we’ll do in this instance. When the time comes, we will firmly defend it and proceed from there. I’ll take a seat with the club and the attorneys, and we’ll discuss the situation further.

On March 28, Rodgers’ case will be heard. Should he lose, he might be suspended from touchline coverage of at least two Livingston and Ibrox games.

On Sunday Willie Collum will referee the Celtic against Livingston match with Nick Walsh on VAR.
