Update:Jamie Carragher clashes with Everton supporter over £30 million. Alisher Usmanov claim

Alisher Usmanov’s £30 million sponsorship of the new Everton stadium,

according to Jamie Carragher, was “afiddle”.

The Russian oligarch was a key sponsor of the Toffees until the war in Ukraine stripped him of his assets,

forcing himto abandon the club and leaving them without his money.

That contributed to the team’s current FFP and PSR allegations, which resulted in a six-point deduction,

but while

appearing on The Overlap Fan Debate (8 March), Carragher battled with a fan regarding the initial sponsorship

money and stated it was “a fiddle”.

“Everton’s covid losses were like £50 or £100m more than everybody else’s,

considering you haven’t got the biggest stadium and you don’t bring that much commercial stuff in,” he told the BBC.

“You’re not like a United or a Liverpool, bringing commercial revenue in.”

Carragher then inquired about the sponsorship that was overlooked by the Premier League in their case against PSR

accusations.

Carragher was not pleased when he learned that USR had paid £30 million for the naming rights to the

new stadium.

“They paid £30 million for name rights. Listen to this sponsorship; it’s hilarious,” he remarked.

“What was the £30 million they paid you for? It was the first call on naming rights.

It was a violin.  was a fiddle,and you knew it.

He then burst out laughing and advised the fan to “behave”.

Everton are suffering owing to Farhad Moshiri’s stupidity.

Most reports at the time indicated that Usmanov’s USR firm had paid for the name rights to the Bramley Moore

Dock Stadium for ten years.

Nobody knows whether that will happen or not because the stadium is set to open and no name has been announced,

while Usmanov remains sidelined by the government for a war in which he is not involved.

However, given Farhad Moshiri’s friendship with Carragher, calling it a fiddle is a bit of a stretch.

But, eventually, that relationship has cost Everton a lot of money,

caused major problems on the pitch, and resulted

in six or more points this season alone.

Everton have suffered greatly, and the sooner new owners are in place who are right for the club,

the better, so we

can move on from this massive disaster.
