‘Deal almost done’ – Fabrizio Romano: Rangers verbally agree senior player loan exit

According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal to loan Rangers midfielder Jose Cifuentes to Cruzeiro is almost completed and will be signed soon.

On Sunday (4 February), the Italian journalist tweeted that the Brazilian club had achieved a verbal deal with the Germans on the Ecuadorian international’s temporary transfer.

He also stated that the 24-year-old chose the South American club over two offers in Europe because he wants to be a regular starter ahead of the 2019 Copa America.

Jose Cifuentes is not part of Philippe Clement’s Ibrox plans.

Cifuentes is clearly not in Philippe Clement’s plans at Ibrox, therefore Rangers have no reason to keep him around.

All parties will be disappointed that the transaction was not successful after working so hard to bring him in from LAFC last summer.

The Gers paid a reported £1.2 million to capture his services just months before his contract with the MLS team was supposed to expire.

Romano did not confirm whether the deal includes a buy option,

but Ge Globo reported on January 31 that the Light Blues were considering including a £2 million option-to-buy clause.

In any case, it appears unlikely that the midfielder will ever play again at Ibrox,

having failed to make an impression over the previous six months.
