‘Covers every blade of grass’: Alan Hutton loves what he saw from £4.5m Rangers ace in Benfica clash

After Mohamed Diomande, the January acquisition, had a standout performance in Thursday’s 2-2 Europa League tie against Benfica,

former Rangers defender Alan Hutton could not say enough good things about the player.

Not too long ago, the Rangers relied heavily on Steven Davis and Ryan Jack for crucial European matchups like this one. However,

with Davis retired and Jack becoming less of an impact, the Glasgow giants required a fresh, equally all-action central midfielder who

could compete with the best players on the continent.

And it seems they have found one too, as Philippe Clement’s team threatened to cause a shock at the Estadio da Luz, with Mohamed

Diomande adding to his already enormous reputation with yet another incredible performance.

With a £4.5 million obligation-to-buy clause in his deal, Diomande, who is on loan from Nordsjaelland, is already paying back

Rangers’ investment. He grabbed his first assist for the Glasgow giants with a gorgeous cross that beckoned Tom Lawrence to stick it

away.

The Welshman was delighted to accept the invitation wholeheartedly.

Mohamed Diomande shines in Rangers draw

Former Ibrox right-back Alan Hutton described Diomande to TNT Sport, saying, “He’s so versatile.” With just seven minutes

remaining in the game, the mid-season addition combined with Fabio Silva before floating an inch-perfect pass onto Lawrence’s head.

He is capable of playing several positions. He eats up every blade of grass since he is so energetic. An excellent player to have around.

Particularly on days like this. Diomande more than held his own against Benfica’s highly regarded midfield tandem of Florentino Luis

and Joao Neves. His efforts were especially crucial on a rare off-night for partner John Lundstram. Diomande is a dynamic player both

off the ball and on it.
