Legend seeing Celtics’ sacrifices pay off this season
Before the 2023–24 NBA season got underway, Paul Pierce stated that he worked out with Jayson Tatum so that the Boston Celtics
great could monitor Tatum’s development and provide support for the All-Star forward.
Tatum is clearly playing some of his best basketball this season, but Pierce believes that the 26-year-old’s performance is more
cerebral than physical. It has nothing to do with his strategy. That will always be his game. Pierce stated on “The Truth Lounge” that
“it’s your mental, and once I changed my mental
I took this next step in my game.” “It’s (Kristaps) Porzingis’ and Jaylen Brown’s
night, so he might have about 18 points.” He is not concerned about it.”It appeared like he would receive 30 regardless of the
circumstances last year. Now that it appears to be their night, I guess I’ll have to make a few more sacrifices,” he said. “it’s how it
appears, and you have to do it in order to win a championship. I can tell that he is willing to make the necessary sacrifices in order to
succeed. Not only him, in every one of them.
It’s interesting that Pierce brought up sacrifices in particular because, as former Celtics forward Gordon Hayward recently disclosed,
during the 2018–19 season, there were player-only meetings held in Boston. Although the right things were said, Hayward claimed the
meetings were met with resistance because no one desired to see less time spent with the ball.
“It was one of those situations where it felt like we had five meetings with just the players,” Hayward remarked on “Podcast P with
Paul George.” “I believe it was just in one ear, right out the other, but things were stated that were the proper things. Like, “Well, that’s
quite nice.” Yes, we do require sacrifice from others.
