Look, this isn’t the place to attempt to get one over on you. The Memphis Grizzlies, who are currently 22–41, were the #2 seed in the Western Conference the previous season and are currently going through one of the most grueling seasons in history. To be honest, that would have been the case fifty games ago, far before the wheels had officially come off the Grizzlies wagon. No one move will make things better for Memphis this season.

The Grizzlies signed Wenyen Gabriel to a 10-day deal today, acting solely out of need.

During the regular season, Wenyen Gabriel averaged 5.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game while playing 68 games for the Los Angeles Lakers. In addition, he averaged three minutes per game throughout his 10 postseason appearances for the Lakers during their journey to the Western Conference Finals. Gabriel has participated in 148 regular season games since not being selected in the 2018 draft.

As previously said, the Grizzlies won’t see a significant improvement this season with Wenyen Gabriel in the lineup. Ja Morant returned for just nine games before sustaining an injury that ended his season. Marcus Smart, a significant Boston Celtics offseason acquisition, has only appeared in 20 games. Due to an ankle ailment, Desmond Bane hasn’t participated in any games since mid-January. The starting lineup for the Grizzlies were Vince Williams Jr., Trey Jemison, Jordan Goodwin, Santi Aldama, and Ziaire Williams in a blowout loss by 30 points against the lowly Portland Trail Blazers. In addition to Williams Jr., Aldama, and Williams, the only other Grizzlies players who have participated in at least 40 games this season are Jaren Jackson Jr., David Roddy, and John Konchar.

Memphis’ season has been an utter disaster, but if they are healthy for the upcoming campaign, there’s no reason to think that the 2023–24 campaign will be little more than a bump in what will otherwise be a semi-extended run of Memphis Grizzlies importance in the Western Conference.
