Report:Rangers overwhelm Benfica’s injury list as PSG loanee joins alleged €30m PL target as questionable.

Two of European football’s most storied teams are set to clash once more in the Portuguese capital, with a place in

the Europa League Quarter Finals on the line.

Rangers boss Philippe Clement has disclosed that the Ibrox squad is carrying up to eight injuries going into the

game, with the club’s attacking line in particular strained to the limit.

However, just two Benfica players are expected to miss the match due to injury, and one of them may yet participate.

Benfica duo Europa League injury doubts

Juan Bernat – inflammation of the pubic bone

Spanish left back Juan Bernat’s career has been plagued by injury in recent years, and this season has been no

exception for the PSG loanee.

The Spanish international’s ACL injury occurred in September 2020, and the troubles have continued during the last

few years of his career.

The former Bayern Munich left-back’s loan move to Benfica was expected to relaunch his career, but his stint in

Portugal has also been hampered by injury.

The defender, who has had abductor muscle difficulties since joining Benfica in September of last year, is now

suffering from “inflammation of the pubic bone”.

It has limited Juan Bernat to only six games and 245 minutes for Benfica, with the 30-year-old not appearing since

October.

The circumstance says little about Rangers-linked alternative David Jurasek, who scarcely played for Benfica before

joining Hoffenheim.

Alternative options: Álvaro Fernández Carreras (on loan from Man United), Morato

Alexander Bah – foot injury

Alexander Bah, Benfica’s right-back, has reportedly had a recurrence of his foot condition after missing three months

this season.

Rangers supporters may recall the Danish international right-back from his time at Slavia Prague, where he played

in the notorious Europa League shame game in 2021.

But, before Rangers fans start looking at Benfica’s other possibilities, it’s worth noting that the defender’s absence

from the game has not to be confirmed by the Portuguese club.

Alexander Bah is regarded as one of the club’s greatest players, and his absence was noticed in a 5-0 defeat to FC

Porto this weekend, despite £30 million ties to the Premier League.
