Update:Raiders Star set to Sign $30 Million Contract With Cowboys

The Las Vegas Raiders do not intend to utilize the franchise tag on running back Josh Jacobs, which could mean he

will be able to test free agency if the two sides do not reach an agreement on a long-term contract shortly. It does not

appear that the team intends to sign him before free agency.

There are plenty of teams in need of running backs, and Jacobs has to be one of the most enticing. In 2022, he led

the NFL with 1,652 rushing yards while being only 26. He has also not experienced any catastrophic injuries. While

the Raiders could bring him back, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox predicts Jacobs will sign a three-year, $30

million contract with the Dallas Cowboys.

“A team like the Dallas Cowboys might be interested in giving Jacobs an offer that the Raiders won’t match. Dallas

did not get the required results with Pollard in 2023, and Jacobs is the same type of dual-threat, every-down dynamo

that the Cowboys possessed during Ezekiel Elliott’s prime years,” Knox said in a February 28 piece.

“And, while Dallas is facing a $3.2 million cap deficit, it has options for quickly creating cap space.” Extensions for

Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb may reduce their 2024 numbers, while releasing Michael Gallup with a post-June 1

designation would save $9.5 million in cap space. The Raiders are unlikely to overspend to keep Jacobs after seeing

enough of Zamir White in late 2023.

Tony Pollard is a free agent, thus the Cowboys need a running back. Jacobs would undoubtedly provide a lot of juice

to the Dallas offense. This is a very real possibility if the Raiders opt not to re-sign the running back.

Josh Jacobs Among the top running backs in free agency

This offseason, a number of highly regarded running backs will be available for free agency, including Josh Jacobs,

Saquon Barkley, Derrick Henry, and others. While there are plenty of possibilities for clubs in need of running backs,

it appears that two stand out.

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini’s March 5 X post, Jacobs and Barkley are the clear top two free agent

options.

It appears that several teams are interested in Jacobs, so the Raiders will face competition if they want to re-sign him.

The Las Vegas Raiders want to use many backs.

The Raiders’ plans at running back are one of the primary reasons they may not re-sign Josh Jacobs. General manager Tom Telesco recently stated that he would want the team to use numerous running backs rather than relying on a single player.
