The Ibrox emblem was used during the interview process to assist bring the Belgian to Ibrox. Despite a 2-1 setback to Motherwell at the weekend, they remain two points clear at the top of the league, have won the Viaplay Cup, and are in the Europa League last 16. However, a Chelsea great was also in the running.

Frank Lampard was also considered for the post. Souness loved the look of the former Everton and Chelsea manager, believing he would have a better understanding of Scottish football.

However, Clement has left a significant impression on his former boss. The 70-year-old now expects the Belgian will enjoy plenty of Rangers success.

He stated, “I was a part of the process, and he was the standout candidate alongside Frank Lampard.” Frank’s background in British football would allow him to better comprehend the west of Scotland than Philippe.

Philippe was coming from Monaco, where the theater (SEC Armadillo) was more crowded than Monaco’s home games. He’s traded the genteel ambiance of Monaco for a bear pit. It’s intense, but he appears to have adapted and is enjoying the task.

Supporters have taken to them, as they should. He is an incredibly outstanding individual. We were doing something in the Armadillo, and he was underlining to the supporters that we are all in this together. Winning games obviously helps, but right now, everyone at the football club and all of the supporters appear to be rowing in the same direction.

There will be no easy games for Rangers or Celtic, as I told him during our conversation. Accept that anybody we’re playing against is in their Cup Final. I believe some of that was recorded with him, and it surely is now.”
