Celtic names a new coach to take Fran Alonso’s post.

The competition to succeed Fran Alonso as manager of Celtic FC Women has been won by Elena Sadiku, the coach of Everton WSL Academy. The announcement was made today.

Alonso‘s departure from the team last month to assume leadership of Houston Dash sparked a hiring spree that culminated in Sadiku signing a two-and-a-half-year contract.

After being forced to retire from competitive play seven years ago owing to injury, the thirty-year-old coached in China, Sweden, and Denmark before taking over as head coach of Everton Women’s U21 team.

She will now serve as the team’s mentor as they aim to win their first league championship and establish themselves in Europe.

“After a thorough process, Elena was identified as an outstanding appointment and someone who has the experience and profile to both deliver on the field for Celtic and also to oversee our wider development as we strive to take our women’s team forward,” Celtic Chief Executive Michael Nicholson stated.

“We are confident that Celtic will gain from Elena’s experiences working in a range of roles and settings throughout Europe and beyond.

“This will be especially beneficial as we get ready to move into our new training complex later this year and assimilate the girls’ teams into the larger Celtic Academy.” We are eager to collaborate in order to expand on the accomplishments of the past few years.

Speaking after arriving at Celtic, Elena Sadiku

“This is such a great day for me and my family, to join a club of Celtic’s standing and stature at such an exciting time for our women’s team,” said a visibly thrilled Sadiku upon accepting the position.
