The Nigerian striker cost the Ibrox club the second-highest summer transfer as former manager Michael Beale began to rebuild the first team roster.

Big things were anticipated of the former Feyenoord frontman, who along with fellow summer recruit Danilo was charged with filling the vacuum left by Alfredo Morelos, given the money spent on Dessers.

However, just like the Rangers’ 2023–24 season, Dessers had a terrible debut wearing a Light Blue shirt. He received a lot of criticism for his clumsy performances, and with good reason.

Essentially, Beale was unable to pull a note out of him or the rest of the team, and in the end, the Englishman was fired in October.

But with the arrival of new Ibrox manager Philippe Clement, Dessers’ fortunes at Rangers completely changed. The Germans have been playing exceptionally well since the Belgian took charge, and Dessers is now playing at his peak.

On December 8, 1994, Cyriel Dessers was born in the city of Tongeren in eastern Belgium. His father was Belgian, while his mother was Nigerian. Dessers is 29 years old at the time of writing.

The mother of Cyriel Dessers is Sophie Bakry, a Nigerian native from Lagos. In Belgium, the 52-year-old had a prior job as a flight attendant.

She revealed to Het Laaste Nieuws in August 2020 her dreams for her son Cyriel’s future.

“The family had wanted him to be a lawyer, not the professional football player he has turned out to be,” the spokeswoman stated.
