Celtics injury concerns as Brendan Rodgers explains his absence from training.
The Hoops manager and captain were mysteriously posted missing from this morning’s session at Lennoxtown.
Callum McGregor is a serious doubt to play against Hearts this Saturday, according to Brendan Rodgers, since he missed training.
With manager Aaron Rodgers and captain Conor McGregor both reported absent ahead of Sunday’s lunchtime kickoff at Tynecastle, assistant coach John Kennedy of the Hoops trained this morning.
After starting and scoring in Wednesday night’s 7-1 thumping of Dundee, McGregor was replaced at halftime by academy graduate Daniel Kelly, who went on to score the team’s first goal.
Shortly after the final whistle, McGregor and rookie Kelly spoke with the team’s TV channel, although the captain’s absence today raised doubts over his participation in this weekend’s crucial matchup at Hearts.
Rodgers, who was in the hot seat for media duties this afternoon after missing the penultimate training session before the Premiership match in Gorgie, said his captain is having trouble with an injury.
Rodgers said: “We’ve got a few that will have niggles so we’ll keep an eye on them over the next couple of days and see if they are available. Callum came off at half-time initially with his Achilles and a little bit of soreness in his calf.
We just have to await the results of the scan for that.
“If he’s out, clearly he’s our captain and a hugely influential player.
I know with Callum that he wants to play every single game. But if he’s not available then there will be someone else ready to come in and take his place”
