Update:Rangers vs. Motherwell: Prediction, Team News, and Lineups

Rangers, the Scottish Premiership leaders, will attempt to keep their perfect record going in 2024 when they host

Motherwell at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon.

The two clubs have already met twice in the league this season, with the Gers winning both times: 1-0 at home in

September last year and 2-0 away three months later.

The Gers trailed at halftime after Daniel Armstrong converted an 11th-minute penalty, but they came out battling in

the second half and turned the game around in four minutes due to goals from James Tavernier and Tom Lawrence.

Philippe Clement praised Kilmarnock for their spirited performance before celebrating his side’s “massive” win in

the Premiership title battle, which keeps them two points ahead of rivals and reigning champions Celtic, who

defeated Dundee 7-1 in midweek.

Rangers can put pressure on their Old Firm opponents and go five points clear at the summit with a win over

Motherwell, whom they have thrashed 15-4 in their last six encounters.

Rangers have every right to be optimistic about their chances on Saturday, given that they have won 18 of their 20

league games since Clement joined the club in October of last year, and their upcoming opponents Motherwell are

also in good spirits after a 3-1 victory over Livingston on Wednesday.

Despite falling behind after only three minutes, the Steelmen recovered after the break, with goals from Sam

Nicholson, Blair Spittal, and Jack Vale securing three crucial points for Stuart Kettlewell’s side in West Lothian.

Motherwell’s victory stopped their terrible run of 11 away games without a win and put them back in contention for a

top-six finish, with them sitting eighth in the Premiership table, three points behind Dundee in sixth.

Kettlewell has acknowledged that he does not want to “get carried away from one good performance” and is aware of

the challenges that his side are set to face in Saturday’s clash with Rangers, as they attempt to win their first league

game in Govan since May 1997.

Rangers will be without Todd Cantwell (hamstring), Rabbi Matondo (muscle), Kieran Dowell (unspecified), Danilo

(knee), and Abdallah Sima (thigh) while they recuperate from injuries.

Kemar Roofe scored for Rangers B in midweek as he continues to regain match fitness, and it is unclear whether the

striker will be included in Saturday’s matchday squad.

Clement is unlikely to make significant changes to his starting lineup, however Nicolas Raskin, Scott Wright, Dujon

Sterling, and Cyriel Dessers will all be vying for a starting spot after appearing as replacements the previous game.

Motherwell’s Callum Slattery (knee), Harry Paton (ankle), and Andrew Halliday (calf) are all still out with injury,

though the latter two are expected to return later this month.

Seventeen-year-old Lennon Miller has played consistently for the Steelmen since the turn of the year and is

anticipated to keep his spot in centre-midfield, while top scorer Theo Bair, who has 10 goals this season, will be

joined in attack by Spittal and Nicholson.
