The Italian journalist announced live on his Kick stream on February 1st that they had verbally agreed to a contract and,

following days of “fighting” over a move for the Fluminense defender who is on loan at APOEL in Cyprus,

they had lined him up for the summer.

Early in the January transfer window, it was thought that the Light Blues and the Brazilian’s parent club had

reached a permanent transfer agreement; however, the Brazilian’s loan side demanded the same

amount of money to end the short-term agreement.

At 7:58 p.m., Romano stated: “The deal was essentially done for Jeffte, the left-back from Fluminense who was on loan at

APOEL Nicosia and was very close to joining Rangers right now.

Then it fell apart because APOEL Nicosia refused to terminate the player’s contract and release him.

“So, following three or four days of intense negotiations for approval, Rangers essentially

reached a verbal agreement today to sign Jefte during the summer transfer window.

“So the Brazilian left-back will probably go to Rangers in the summer when he will return to Fluminense and then be available for a Rangers move.

So not happening now but happening in the summer, a very interesting left-back for Rangers.”

Will have to do

Left-back has had a question mark over it at Ibrox for months, with Ridvan Yilmaz in and out of the side and

Borna Barisic’s defensive quality often questioned.

The Turkish international has been pursued for a move throughout the current window, and after being close to a

Hellas Verona move he has been the subject of bids from Galatasaray.

If the man who was supposed to replace him in the squad has been out for at least five months, it will be difficult to let him go at this point.

Since Barisic’s contract expires in the summer, Jefte, 20, who has been predicted to arrive sooner rather than later,

may potentially replace the Croatian international.

The Rangers roster was left looking incredibly disjointed after Michael Beale’s summer business didn’t go as planned and he was later plagued by a

number of injuries. Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen have been trying to revamp this team.

Although deals have been made in both ways, it appears that the striker and the left-back, who were reportedly

the top objectives before the market opened, will have to wait.
