Following two stellar years in a Celtic shirt, Cameron Carter-Vickers has had a frustrating season at the Bhoys but he is now hoping the worst of his injury problems are behind him.
Due to knee surgery, the US international missed the preseason training last summer and has since experienced multiple muscle injuries.
The defender was out for a further month in January and February,
but he returned to action last weekend against Motherwell and midweek against Dundee, demonstrating his value to this club.
But he’s still being introduced bit by bit,
and it hasn’t been a full ninety minutes since his most recent return.
That will now happen on Sunday at Tynecastle against Hearts.
Cameron Carter-Vickers discusses his Celtic heritage before the Hearts
When asked whether he is past the worst of his problems,
Carter-Vickers responded in the wake of Wednesday’s 7-1 thumping at Celtic Park.
[Daily Record]: “I hope and I believe so.”
I find it annoying that I keep getting injured and missing work.
I’m trying to maintain my fitness and contribute to the team’s accomplishments.
I played 60 minutes against Dundee in addition to 30 minutes at the weekend. That’s helpful, then. Hopefully, I’m reintegrating into it.
“I’m not sure why this season has been so difficult for me.
It is on the same side as my knee and my hamstring, on the right side.
This season has likely been the first in my career that I’ve been in this position.
However, if you want to have a lengthy career, you will have one or more seasons like that.
“You just need to keep going, and hopefully this weekend I’ll be able to play 90 minutes against Hearts.”
This will undoubtedly be a difficult game.
We know we need to perform well on Sunday because we lost 2-0 the last time we played them here.
If Carter-Vickers can play the entire 90 minutes against Hearts,
it will be a significant milestone for both Celtic and him.
Carter-Vickers hasn’t played a complete 90 minutes since the 2-0 victory over Livingston in December.
The presence of Carter-Vickers is essential to this defensive line.
Without a doubt, Celtic has suffered because of his absences this season,
losing four of the games he has missed.
The Bhoys have a realistic chance of winning the Scottish Premiership and unseating Rangers if he can remain healthy for the ten league games left.
